It’s March 29th, 2015. Week Twelve of writing 1,000 words per day of fiction. I am thoroughly insane at this point, but it’s time for the Week Twelve update on my 1K a Day Challenge!

1K a Day – “It Inspires Me” March Edition

Eleventh in the 1K a Day Motivational Series, in which I talk about something that happened in the previous week that could have or did prevent me from writing a minimum of 1,000 words on a given day, or possibly talk about something that provided support to get me through the day.

It’s the last week of March so it’s time for the next Inspiration post!

A friend and I were discussing old favorite anime series this past week, and he brought up several shows that I had managed not to watch yet, among those: Aku no Hana, or Flowers of Evil. Hear the complete ending theme (ED to those in the know). Continue reading

1K a Day – “But I Lost The Thread”

Tenth in the 1K a Day Motivational Series, in which I talk about something that happened in the previous week that could have or did prevent me from writing a minimum of 1,000 words on a given day, or possibly talk about something that provided support to get me through the day.

I’m at the middle point of my work in progress, right at the 50% mark of what I think it will take to complete this novel (Gridfall). There comes a moment in the writing, especially longer writing, when I start to question every other word I put down. Because I’m a discovery writer more than an architect writer, the concept I had of the story has changed drastically from where I started. I get ideas for an edgy or unexpected direction a character is going to take and I just plunge headfirst into it and let the plot adjust from there.  Continue reading

1K a Day Challenge – Week Ten

It’s March 15th, 2015. I am ten weeks into this writing every day thing, which puts me nearly 20% of the way done with the year. It’s time for the Week Ten update on my 1K a Day Challenge!

Days 67 through 73 have been successes, with a minimum of 1,000 words per day written.

Stats for Days 67 to 73: Continue reading

1K a Day – “But I Want To Work On This Other Thing”

Ninth in the 1K a Day Motivational Series, in which I talk about something that happened in the previous week that could have or did prevent me from writing a minimum of 1,000 words on a given day, or possibly talk about something that provided support to get me through the day.

Last week I talked about the water cooler mechanism and how social pressure or even just the desire to stay caught up on a variety of shows can lead to problems. This week I’d like to talk about that tendency to stop forward progress on what you’re doing and start working on something else. I call it “Beginning’s The Best Part”.

1K a Day – “The Water Cooler Mechanism”

Eighth in the 1K a Day Motivational Series, in which I talk about something that happened in the previous week that could have or did prevent me from writing a minimum of 1,000 words on a given day, or possibly talk about something that provided support to get me through the day.

Last week I talked about needing that inspiration sometimes. Previously I have talked about games and their capacity to suck away your free time. So this time, I want to talk about the water cooler mechanism, which is not nearly as awesome as the antikythera mechanism. Continue reading

1K a Day – “It Inspires Me”

Seventh in the 1K a Day Motivational Series, in which I talk about something that happened in the previous week that could have or did prevent me from writing a minimum of 1,000 words on a given day, or possibly talk about something that provided support to get me through the day.

This past week I was working through some bad days at work, just in general feeling a little bit nonplussed about writing or creation in general. I’ve been spending so much more time writing this year on account of the challenge that I’ve been giving less time to the inspirational pursuits of reading, watching movies and TV, playing video games, and the like. By the weekend I had begun to feel particularly drained of inspiration, which is to say I wanted to stop writing.
