1K a Day Challenge – Week Fifty One

It’s December 27th, 2015. Week fifty one of writing 1,000 words a day for the entire year. It’s time for another update!

Days 354 to 360 have been successes, with a minimum of 1,000 words a day written.

Stats for Days 354 to 360:

Day 354 – 1558 words
Day 355 – 1719 words
Day 356 – 1791 words
Day 357 – 1783 words
Day 358 – 1843 words
Day 359 – 1753 words
Day 360 – 1521 words

Total count for the year thus far is 465,952 words. Average daily word count is 1,294 words. WIP Savage Duty is at 113,431 words. Based on 120,000 words estimated for expected completion, it is 94% complete.

Real quick update on what’s going to happen next week as well as what’s going on with Savage Duty.

Savage Duty is in the epilogue at this point. I wrote the “conclusion” a couple days ago and now I’m just writing denouement and stuff that will be helping set up the future of the series. There won’t be much more of that, but I also have another couple of scenes I outright skipped while writing this draft and I need to go back and get those done, too. They are transitional scenes that need to be there in order to show how certain characters get from one point to another, and I know how they got there, but I just didn’t want to write them at the time.

Now, then, I have just five days left in the year, including today. I think two or three of those days will be put toward finishing up Savage Duty, and then for the remainder of the year I’ll just be writing whatever the hell I feel like to get my words in for those days. I’ll probably attempt to write a couple short stories or maybe one short story of middling length.

The final Update will happen on Thursday, December 31st, as that will be the completion of the year. I will probably write a super-post that includes both the final Update and the year-end Motivational. Then sometime the following week I will be writing a sort of wrap-up post that concludes the year and contains my thoughts for the challenge I undertook, plus some musings on what I’ll be doing for 2016. Spoiler: It sure as hell isn’t going to be writing every single day.

So until next time, push the boundaries, fight the power, cry deeply if you need to, and always remember to write the hell on.

  1. I think it’s safe to congratulate you for keeping up with your goal for an entire year. All I can say is dang, that’s a lot of words!

    • Haha, yeah, it is a lot of words, isn’t it? I won’t quite make 500,000 but it’s certainly been a heck of a year, and I’m looking forward to /dreading all the editing I have to do next year.

Thanks for sticking with me through the year, Gene!
