1K a Day Challenge – Week Seven

It’s February 21st, 2015. A solid seven weeks in and the writing is just smooth as silk. Maybe not great writing, but the words are coming and coming with so much ease.

Days 46 through 52 have been successes, with a minimum of 1,000 words per day written. I had a rough week at work, but this the writing did not suffer as you will see.

1K a Day – “But It’s A Holiday”

Sixth in the 1K a Day Motivational Series, in which I talk about something that happened in the previous week that could have or did prevent me from writing a minimum of 1,000 words on a given day, or possibly talk about something that provided support to get me through the day.

This week saw the first holiday of the year in which I had the day off from work, that being Presidents Day. You might be thinking “Oh, an extra day off from work, he’ll totally have time to get around to writing a measly 1,000 words” but you’d be dead wrong.

1K a Day Challenge – Week Six

It’s February 14th, 2015. Valentine’s Day for those of you in a relationship! It is time for the Week Six update!

Days 39 through 45 have been successes, with a minimum of 1,000 words per day written. There were a couple of days where my motivation to do much more than sit around playing Dying Light were almost overwhelming, but I stuck it out! Continue reading

1K a Day – “I’m Too *Emotion* To Write”

Fifth in the 1K a Day Motivational Series, in which I talk about something that happened in the previous week that could have or did prevent me from writing a minimum of 1,000 words on a given day, or possibly talk about something that provided support to get me through the day.

This one’s gonna get angry. Strap in.

Some days are more draining than others. Some sap you mentally, or physically. You’re too tired or brain is too fried. Happens all the time, to everyone. Too mentally tired happens to me multiple times a week. But I’ve already talked about being too tired. Continue reading

1K a Day Challenge – Week Five

It’s February 8th, 2015. It is time for the Week Five update!

Days 32 through 38 have been successes, with a minimum of 1,000 words per day written. Continue reading

1K a Day – “Just One More Level”

Fourth in the 1K a Day Motivational Series, in which I talk about something that happened in the previous week that could have or did prevent me from writing a minimum of 1,000 words on a given day, or possibly talk about something that provided support to get me through the day.

I have a history of playing massively multiplayer online games (MMOs). These are often just Skinner Boxes designed to dole out rewards in an addictive manner, and they’re incredibly effective when it’s hidden well. In my 20s I got sucked into World of Warcraft with a group of friends and played it on and off, with varying degrees of intensity, for six years. I’m not especially proud of that, but it is the truth. When I get deep into an MMO, all creative productivity goes by the wayside. Social life begins to wane if it has no bearing on the game. I’d exist on three hours of sleep so I could play longer and still keep my job. Most people have addictive personalities and I’m no different. Continue reading

1K a Day Challenge – Week Four

It’s February 1st, 2015. It is time for the Week Four update!

Days 25 through 31 have been successes, with a minimum of 1,000 words per day written. Unfortunately the maximum was not much higher than 1,000, but who cares! Continue reading

1K a Day – “They Help Me”

Third in the 1K a Day Motivational Series, in which I talk about something that happened in the previous week that could have or did prevent me from writing a minimum of 1,000 words on a given day, or possibly talk about something that provided support to get me through the day.

This week I’m going to talk about my writing friends, Robert and Kyra. You see, I’m not on my journey alone. The two of them are fellow writers, aspiring authors with the same need to tell stories. They are my hype crew, my cheerleaders, my co-conspirators. And I am all of those things to them! Continue reading

1K a Day Challenge – Week Three

It’s January 25th, 2015. It is time for the Week Three update!

Days 18 through 24 have been successes, with a minimum of 1,000 words per day written. There were no major events that just kept me from getting the words in this time, save for Day 24 in which I didn’t plan my time around a birthday party, but more on that in the motivational series! Continue reading

1K a Day – “But I Got Sick”

Second in the 1K a Day Motivational Series, in which I talk about something that happened in the previous week that could have or did prevent me from writing a minimum of 1,000 words on a given day.

This past week, I came down with what I have to assume was the Hantavirus. The flu-like symptoms started last Wednesday during the workday with general fever, myalgia, fatigue, and an inability to focus. By Thursday afternoon I was ready to go curl up in a ball and never move again, and by Friday morning it hurt just to breathe. As I was contemplating the possibility of a doctor’s visit, I spent a lot of time resting and not very much time doing anything else. I left work early on Thursday and didn’t go in at all on Friday, but those things did not lead to greater productivity as regards my publishing as I spent all that time in bed being miserable and hating life. And possibly rats. Continue reading
