It’s Thursday and I’m traveling today, so I thought I would talk about how to get your work done while riding around. It’s a valid question for public transit commuters as well, managing to utilize your ride time for productivity.
I don’t have a lot of time for this kind of thing, but I have a phone and tablet capable of typing, and while it isn’t ideal, it serves in a pinch. The important part is to remember that you can’t let yourself be distracted while you are riding. As you can imagine this is doubly hard from your preferred writing haven because there’s a lot to be distracted about.
There’s constant jarring motions with the vehicle, conversations you may need to be a part of, noises like horns. Constant stops and starts. It is endless.
I find that some good noise-canceling headphones help a lot with regards to this, because you can cancel out half the noise distraction and focus in.
I don’t have a lot of advice for this beyond that, because I don’t have a lot of experience with it, but I’m hoping to increase that soon.
If you have the ability to get some work done despite having to travel, you need to embrace it. Get it done.
Which goes well with writing the hell on.
