It’s April 3rd, 2016. I said it last week and I’ll say it again, Let’s do that update thing I do!
My goals for the thirteenth week of the year were as follows:
Write Shapes 2 Part 9Write Week 4 for Writing Game Year 2- Continue broad edits on Writing Game Year 1
Finish line edits on Shapes 1*Maintain the blog- Submit a short story
- Write a short story
Didn’t manage to submit or write a short story this week. Too much going on and I’m trying to focus in on that editing thing a bit more.
I wrote the parts for both Shapes 2 and Writing Game 2, though, so new writing hasn’t completely stalled, and will not for the foreseeable future! This week I wrote for a story called Vampire Money, which is about all the things that go bump in the night. I had a lot of fun with it, even though I wasn’t sure at all how I was going to continue the story.
As far as editing goes, I put an asterisk on Shapes 1 editing because I didn’t finish line edits, but I did simultaneously discover a huge flaw in the story and work out the kinks for it. There’s a couple other things that are going to be worked on before I get to line edits again, but I made a LOT of progress on it this week, which is a good feeling.
There’s not much more to tell. I decided I was going to join Camp NaNo for April. Camp NaNo is like NaNoWriMo but you get to dictate the number of words you want to write over a month instead of just 50k flat. And for the purposes of inclusion, they encourage people who are editing to join in, where an hour of editing is equal to 1,000 words. So I chose to do 50k, or 50 hours worth of editing over the month, and I’m right on track at this point (just three days in, I better be on track!). With that much editing, I should be able to get through all of Shapes 1, most of the Writing Game Year 1, and begin work on Gridfall at last. We’ll see how it all plays out!
I mentioned that I was going to set a Quarterly Goal for writing and editing, in an effort to solidify more concrete goals in a shorter time frame so that all my goals may still be accomplished by the end of the year.
So my goals for Second Quarter 2016 (April-June) are as follows:
- Finish Shapes 1 Editing and Self-Publish It
- Finish Writing Game Year 1 Editing and Release It For Free
- Finish Writing Game Year 2
- Finish Shapes 2 Writing
- Plot Shapes 3 for Third Quarter Posting
- Write Four Short Stories
- Submit Three Short Stories
- Finish Gridfall Editing and Begin Submitting to Agents
That’s a lot of things, but I feel like I’ve been able to refocus myself after the first few months of the year struggling, and I have a lot of ground to make up for.
Until next time, be open to collaboration in life, work, art, whatever. Working together is a wonderful feeling when you find the right team!
