1K a Day Motivational – “But I’m Settling Back In”

Thirty second in the Motivational series, and tied directly to the previous week’s “But I’m on Vacation”.

My vacation ended a couple days ago, and the last day of my vacation turned out to be lots of travel and an attempt to return to the normal routines of life. Only problem is, normal routines had fallen by the wayside. What’s a sleep schedule? What’s work? Why do I need to do that? Laundry? Chores?

Fuck all that.

Only you can’t. You can get away with a little bit of ignoring the demands of daily life when you’re on vacation, especially if you’re a guest somewhere and much of the daily things that need to be done aren’t your responsibility for once. But when you come back from that vacation, you gotta play catch up.

A week’s worth of work worries had built up, and the first few days are longer work days to compensate. Longer work days leads to less time to get in all that pesky laundry and dishes and eating and, oh yeah, writing.

Things I promised people I’d do have to be done. And my mind still isn’t in the right place to do most of it.

So when I come back from an extended vacation and have to start picking back up all the routines and habits and getting back into the daily work groove, the only thing to really do for me is to take it in small doses. Each day is planned around a little catchup, a little of this, a little of that. The next week will be a little extra tiring as I readjust to life with a job. Even one week can mess that up, and I’m not ashamed to admit that my first day back to work I didn’t get much done. I was too distracted and frazzled and there was just so much to do.

I don’t have some trick or any real advice here. Just ease back into your normal life and don’t let the writing fall by the wayside in the attempt.

Get back in the groove and always remember to write the hell on.
