1K a Day Challenge – Week Twenty Four

It’s June 21st, 2015. Week twenty four of writing 1,000 words per day of fiction. It’s time for another update!

Days 165 through 171 have been successes, with a minimum of 1,000 words per day written.

Stats for Days 165 to 171:

Day 165 – 1104 words
Day 166 – 1041 words
Day 167 – 1075 words
Day 168 – 1097 words
Day 169 – 1064 words
Day 170 – 1289 words
Day 171 – 1170 words

Total count for the year thus far is 223,584 words. Average daily word count is 1,307 words. Avalon Circle is at 32,644 words. I have no current projection for completion on Avalon Circle.

Previously I’ve talked about the Viable Paradise writer’s workshop I was hoping to get into.

I did not get into Viable Paradise. Which is sad. I was really hopeful, but you can’t count on stuff like that. One of my writer friends actually did get in and I’m pleased as hell for her. I know how hard she worked and she definitely deserved it. Good for you! You know who you are.

So now that my work responsibilities have been lessened and I no longer have that writer’s workshop to look forward to, I’m left with some open, free time on my hands. Given why I scaled back my day job, logic should dictate that I repurpose those hours and days towards my writing craft, towards more words, towards editing. Towards networking, and conventions, and other workshops.

That’s definitely the idea. While I was pretty upset that I didn’t get into Viable Paradise, I’ve still got the routine I established this year. I’m quickly approaching the halfway point in the year, having written more than 50K words OVER the 1,000 words a day across the year. Every day that passes that I keep it up, that I keep on writing, is one more day of triumph. Is one more day that I know I can do this. If nothing else happens for the entire year except all this writing, that’s still a major achievement.

That’s still something to tip my hat to.

But never one to rest on my laurels for long, I’m gonna keep going. I’ve got more stories to tell, more editing to do, THINGS to be about. Thanks again to all of you coming on this journey with me, for keeping me motivated, for cheering me on, for working right alongside me.

  1. I’m sorry you didn’t get into the workshop. But, maybe next year. Do you know of any others you might be able to attend?

    • There aren’t a lot like Viable Paradise out there, and the other ones I know about are longer, like Clarion, six week writing retreats for college students on summer vacation.

I’ll be keeping my ear to the ground, though, never fear!

  2. Look at it this way, all the writing you’re doing is like a year long workshop! You are honing your craft every day!
